The District sponsors the Alamosa River Watershed
Project (ARWP), which was established in 1995 as a combined effort of local landowners, water
users, and concerned citizens, with a primary goal of stabilizing bank erosion and improving
riparian habitat along the Alamosa River. ARWP is completing the study phase of river
restoration projects estimated to cost $931,000 over the next 4 years. 37 sub-projects (Phases
1, 2, and 3) have been identified through a conceptual design study to complete the over-all
restoration project, and will cost $527,000 for engineering, design, and construction. These sub-
projects are to be completed through cooperative efforts of the ARWP members, with funding
administered through the District. Proposed funding for Phases 1, 2, and 3 consists of a CWCB
grant for $300,000, and $227,000 from the District and other sponsors.

Location Map

6
