It is mainly on hillsides, canyon sideslopes, ridges <br /> <br />and lllOuntain sideslopes. Slope is 6 to 80 percent. The vegetation on this <br /> <br />unit is mainly ponderosa pine, Douqlas fir~ ROCky Mountain juniper, grasses, <br /> <br />shrubs and forbs. Elevation is 7, )00 to 8,500 feet. The average annual <br /> <br />precipitation is about 15 to 20 inches, the average annual air temperature <br /> <br />is 43 to 47 degrees F, and the avecage frost-free season is 75 to 120 days. <br />i <br /> <br />This unit makes up about 5 percent of the survey area. It is about 40 <br /> <br />percent Sheek and similar soils, 35 percent Archuleta and similar soils, and <br /> <br />15 percent Pramiss and similar soilS. The remaining 15 percent is <br /> <br />components of minor extent. <br /> <br />Sheek and similar soils are on hillsides, .canyon sideslopes and mountain <br /> <br />s~deslopes. These soils are deep and well drained. They formed in <br />\ <br />~ncalcareous colluvium and residuum derived dominantly from sedimentary <br /> <br />rocks. The surface layer is very stony sandy loam. The subsoil is very <br /> <br />stony clay loam. Below this to a depth of 60 inches the soils are very <br /> <br />stony. clay loam. <br /> <br />Archuleta and similar soils are on hillsides, canyon sideslopes and <br /> <br />mountain sideslopes. These soils are shallow and well drained. They formed <br /> <br />in noncalcareous colluvium derived dominantly from sedimentary rocks. The <br /> <br />surface layer is stony and very stony sandy loam. Below this to a depth of <br /> <br />10 to 20 inches the soils are stony clay loam. Weathered shale and <br /> <br />sandstone is at a depth of 10 to 20 inches. <br /> <br />A-I2. <br />
