It is mainly <br /> <br />on knobs, ridges, hillsides, and fans. Slope is 3 to 65 percent. The <br /> <br />vegetation on this unit is mainly pinyon, juniper, shrubs, grass, and forbs. <br /> <br />Elevation is 5,400 to 7,400 feet. The average annual precipitation is about <br /> <br />11 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature is 47 to 52 degrees F, <br /> <br />and the average frost-free season is 100 to 135 days. <br /> <br />This unit makes up about 10 percent of the survey area. It is about 50 <br /> <br />percent Sili and similar soils and 35 percent Zyme and similar soils. The <br /> <br />remaining 15 percent is components of minor extent. <br /> <br />Sili and similar soils are on hillsides and fans. These soils are deep <br /> <br />and well drained. They formed in calcareous allu"ium derived dominantly <br /> <br />from sedimentary rocks. The surface layer is clay loam. The subsoil is <br /> <br />clay. Weathered shale is at a depth of 40 to 60 inches. The soils in some <br /> <br />areas of this unit are salt and alkali affected. <br /> <br />Zyme and similar soils are on knobs, ridges and hillsides. These soils <br /> <br />are shallow and well drained. They formed in calcareous residuum and <br /> <br />colluvium derived dominantly from sedimentary rocks. The surface layer is <br /> <br />very channery clay loam. Below this to a depth of 6 to 20 inches the soils <br /> <br />are clay loam and clay. Weathered shale is at a depth of 6 to 20 inches. <br /> <br />Of minor elCtent in this unit are moderately deep Sharps and Razor <br /> <br />soils, deep Witt and Ackman soils, and shallow Gladel soils. <br /> <br />MOst areas of this unit are used for wood.production, wildlife habitat, <br /> <br />and livestock grazing. A few areas are used for homesite development. <br /> <br />Wildlife suited to native areas of this unit are mule deer and_ cottontail <br /> <br />rabbit. <br /> <br />A-II <br />
