Specific Powers <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(1) In addition to the general powers set forth in Section 32-3-114, <br />the board of a sanitation district for and on behalf of the district <br />has the power: To compel the owners of premises, whenever necessary <br />for the protection of public health, to connect their premises, in <br />accordance with the state plumbing code, to the sewer lines of the <br />district within twenty days after written notice sent by registered <br />mail, if such sewer line is within four hundred feet of the premises. <br />If such connection is not begun within twenty days, the board may <br />thereafter connect the premises to the sewer system of the district <br />and have a first and prior lien on the premises to be enforced as if <br />it were a mechanic's lien for the cost of making the connection. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(2) In addition to the general powers set forth in Section 32-3-114, <br />the board of a water district for and on behalf of the district has <br />the power: To compel the owners of premises, whenever necessary for <br />the protection of public health, to connect their premises in accord- <br />ance with the state plumbing code to the water lines of the district <br />within twenty days after wrltten notice sent by registered mail, if <br />said lines are within four hundred feet of the premises. If the con- <br />nection is not begun within the twenty-day period, the board may there- <br />after connect the premises to the water system of the district and have <br />a first and prior lien on the premises to be enforced as if it were a <br />mechanic's lien for the cost of making the connection. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(3) In addition to the powers set forth in Section 32-3-114, the <br />board of the fire protection district for and on behalf of the dis- <br />trict has the power: To compel the owners of premises, whenever nec- <br />essary for the protection of public safety, to install fire escapes, <br />fire installations, fireproofing, and safety devices. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(4) In addition to all the powers generally and specifically granted <br />to the board of a district, it has the right to accept, on behalf of <br />the district, real or personal property for the use of the district <br />and to accept gifts and conveyances made to the district upon such <br />terms or conditions as the board may approve. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(5) A district created for water or sanitation purposes, upon the <br />filing of a resolution of the board with the district court having <br />jurisdiction, may become a metropolitan district possessing all the <br />rights, powers, and authority of such a district if petitions for the <br />creation of a metropolitan district, partially or wholly within the <br />water or sanitation district, are not then pending or if a metropoli- <br />tan district does not already exist wholly or partly within the <br />boundaries of the sanitation or water district. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(6) Where <br />it has all <br />district. <br /> <br />a metropolitan district is originally organized as such, <br />of the powers of a water, sanitation, and fire protection <br />A water or sanitation district may exercise all the powers <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />II - 3 <br />
