Operation
and maintenance of the distribution system would be the responsibility
of the purchaser of the treated water.

CURRENT STATUS

In March 1979 the West Divide Water Conservancy District filed an
application for financial assistance from the Colorado Water Con-
servation Board Construction Fund for a project proposed to supply
water to the South Rifle area from a municipal well or wells located
in the alluvium along the south side of the Colorado River. The
District subsequently agreed to co-fund a feasibility report on the
project with the Colorado Water Conservation Board. During the
feasibility studies it was determined that the use of wells as the
source of the water supply for the system was not a practical solu-
tion at this time.

This report has been prepared and submitted to the Colorado Water
Conservation Board by The David E. Fleming Company of Denver,
Colorado, Consulting Engineers for the West Divide Water Conservancy
District. The report concludes that to avoid serious water supply
problems in the immediate future a water system supplied by direct
diversion from the Colorado River should be constructed immediately

- 2 -
