I
II
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

portion of the suspended sediment and automatically flush it back
to the river, The sedimentation basin in the treatment plant
should be capable of removing the remaining fine suspended sediment
load. Provision has been made for the addition of a sedimentation
pond in lieu of the grit chamber between the intake and the river
pumping station if final designs indicate such to be more practicable.

The grit chamber would be located as close as possible to the intake
structure in order to avoid siltation problems in the plant inlet
pipeline, The grit chamber would be equipped with trash screen and
automatic grit removal equipment, Due to the seasonal occurrence of
suspended sediment. the grit chamber would be a single tank with a by-
pass pipeline for use during periods of low flows in the river with
relatively low concentrations of suspended sediment.

The river pumping station would be combined with the grit chamber.
The combined structure would be located approximately 50 feet back
from the river intake, The pumping station would be a conventional
low-head, automatic plant containing two 5-horsepower vertical turbine
pumps with a rated capacity of approximately 465 gpm giving the station
a reserve capacity of 33 percent.

The water treatment plant would be located between the river and
Interstate Highway 70. A treated water pumping station located at
the water treatment plant would pump the treated water from the clear
well at the treatment plant through the 8" and 14" diameter trunk
pipeline to the storage tank. It would contain one 10-horsepower,
two l5-horsepower and one 20-horsepower horizontal centrifugal pumps
providing for staged discharge as the demand changes.

V-2
