PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT

PHYSICAL PLAN

Features and layout of the first stage of the South Rifle Division
are shown on the Project Map, The principal components of the pro-
posed water system consist of:

. River intake and presedimentation works
- 700 gpm

. River pumping station - 700 gpm

. Water treatment plant - 1,0 mgd
. Treated water pumping station - 700 gpm

. Treated water storage tank - 1.0 mg

. Trunk pipeline - 8" and 14" diameter

The intake pipeline between the intake structure and the grit chamber
would be located below the river low water level to prevent surface
slicks of oil, grease and other contaminants from entering the treat-
ment plant, Consideration was given to supplying the water system
from one of the existing irrigation ditches serving the area, This
alternative was rejected for several reasons. A ditch would not ex-
clude oil and other surface contaminants; would be difficult to protect
from freezing in the winter; would be vunerable to flooding; and
would be more difficult to clean of silt than the proposed presediment
works.

The proposed water treatment system includes a grit chamber associated
with the river intake structure which would settle out the major

V-l
