A pump test of a 12-inch diameter
well originally considered as a water supply well for the South
Rifle Division was performed in October 1980 and indicated that
the yield of that individual alluvium well was only on the order
of 50 gallons per minute (gpm). Since the water needs of the South
Rifle Division will be approximately 700 gpm, the use of alluvium
groundwater wells was dropped from further consideration in this
report although not from permanent consideration,

The area proposed to be served by the South Rifle Division and the
principal features of the first stage system are shown on the Project
Map in the pocket at the back of this report.

LOCATION

The South Rifle Division area is located in Garfield County, Colorado,
immediately to the south of the City of Rifle. It lies wholly within
the boundaries of West Divide Water Conservancy District and outside
of the city limits of Rifle. It includes lands within the boundaries
of the Rifle Village South Metropolitan District presently providing
water and sewage service to users within the South Rifle Division area,

The South Rifle Division will only serve as a "wholesale" supplier of
potable waters to Metro, and other public entities if so requested,
and will not compete or participate in the operation and maintenance of
distribution systems within the area. The project costs will be re-
paid by the water users, through their distribution entities, so that

I-2
