The
forecast,

will be projected over a 40 year period of time. This will
anticipated end of the study period at the year 2015.

It should be emphasized that the population projection is a
relationship between specified population levels and time, and it is
based on past rates of growth. In a relatively undeveloped area such
as Delta, the future growth rates may be significantly influenced by
industrial expansion or other unpredictable factors. For this reason,
our determinations of future system requirements are based on
projected water use regardless of the actual time a certain level of
development takes place. The dates indicated in the population
projection and water use forecast should be considered as approxi-
mate. The actual period of study may be shorter or longer depending
on growth.

Location of Study Area

I

The City of Delta is located in west-central Delta County west
of the continental divide in the State of Colorado. Delta is located
at the north end of the Uncompahgre Valley at the confluence of the
Uncompahgre River with the Gunnison River. The City is south of Grand
Mesa, northwest of the Black Canyon Uplift, and northeast of the
Uncompahgre Plateau. The average elevation of the central business
district and many residential areas in the City is approximately
4,960 feet above mean sea level. A large residential area located
in the east end of the City on Garnet Mesa is approximately
100 feet higher in elevation.

The study area encompasses all of the area within the City
limits as well as portions of the community located outside of the
City which are presently served by the City or have the potential to
be served by the City. The raw water supply and collection system are
located on a southeastern face of Grand Mesa due north of the City.
This area is also included in the study.
