The FEMA has published
several references to provide detailed criteria and design procedures for flood
proofing structures. These references are listed in the bibliography and
should be consulted for detailed design information. The more commonly used
flood proofing measures are discussed in Section III.

Any proposed structures located within the lOO-year flood fringe should either
have the lowest floor elevated to one (1) foot above the lOO-year floodway
water surface elevation or should be flood proofed to one foot above the
floodway elevation. Exceptions are to be reviewed by the City/County Flood
Plain Administrator. The lOO-year flood plain and corresponding elevations of
the lOO-year floodway can be determined by reviewing the Flood Hazard 80undary
Maps and Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) published by FEMA and available for
review in the City/County offices.

2.9 Maintenance

t

The City/County may assume the maintenance of surface and subsurface drainage
sys tems and eros i on contro 1 structures after a probat i onary two-year
maintenance period (by the developer) in connection with the subdivision of
land, if the following are met:

a. A 11 of the requi rements of The Drainage Criteri a Manua 1 have been
fully complied with.

b. The City/County have completed a probationary inspection of the
facilities. Probationary acceptance of the facilities is required
before the developer may apply for reimbursement or credit of costs
for drainage facilities.

2-7

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
