Long-term planning: The county planning department will be engineering a second long-
term accesslescape road into the Floyd Hill area from Jefferson Co. Hwy. 74 to intersect
at Beaver Brook Canyon Rd. This road would give the Evergreen Fire District an alternate
route into the area and an evacuation route out for residents and businesses. Cost
estimate at this time is unknown.

This project is mentioned to show future fire protection planning within the community.

83. Fire Watch Towers
There is preliminary discussion to place three fire watchtowers in the county. A triangular
overlapping area of coverage would allow even the smallest of fires to be spotted early.
Tower locations: 1) Up Spring Gulch; 2) Upper Bear Creek Area; 3) Bellview.

B4. Fire ProofinglProtection Information
Fire Protection Information and training for homes and businesses will be developed.
a. Fireplace and Chimney safety
b. Fire preventive roofing
c. Fire preventive landscaping
d. Water storage
e. Fire fuels

***NOTE*** This section will be assembled by the Public Information Network Section
Committee, later identified. It will, however, take expert fire safety consultation to prepare
it properly. It has been added to this portion for cost purposes and partner identification.

Ba. Background
Clear Creek County has experienced a serious increase in urban interface much the same
as Jefferson and Summit Counties. Recognizing and preventing the risk potential has
been slow. Now that Jefferson County and Summit County is bursting at the seams, so
to speak, there isn't anywhere else for people to look for affordable housing and relocation
other than in Clear Creek County. The opportunity to expand our fire protection has never
been more needed. With the county's plans to complete "Master Plan '99", defensible fire
regulations to reduce risk benefits future developments.

Bb. Project Description
There are four components to the fire protection section of this application.
1. Fire protection master planning with incorporation into the county "Master Plan '99"
2. Fire access/escape road - Floyd Hill, Saddleback area
3. Fire watchtowers
4. Fire protection information

19
