mitigation projects that will reduce
future flood damages, Projects can
be structural or non-structural in
are six (6) Hi\1GP projects underway
or about to start in Colorado as a
result of a presidential flood disaster
declaration on August 1, 1997. The
Project Impact
Project Impact, FEMA's newest
initiative, challenges the nation to
take action to protect families,
businesses and communities by
reducing the effects of natural
disasters, At the heart of Project
Impac1 is the formation of active
partnerships among businesses, civic
leaders and individual citizens, This
effort is an investmen1 that will
enhance and strengthen the
economic structure and long,term
stability of communities, regardless
of when disasters strike, FEMA
provides "seed money" for selec1ed
Colorado communities each year to
achieve the following objectives:

, build community partnerships,

. assess risks,

. prioritize needs, and

the NFIP and its map products,
Colorado's program involvement
comes primarily from its
participation on the Technical
where it holds the only seat
dedicated to a state governmental
