<br />12 <br /> <br />CONSULTING ENGINEERING <br /> <br />a. Detailed conferences with the Client and approval or regulatory authorities. <br />b. Planning for and assisting the Client in procuring the necessary field in. <br />formation for design. This information mayinc1ude field surveys, photo- <br />grammetry, traffic studies, soils investigations, or other special studies. <br />Such field information is normaliy furnished by the Client or through the <br />Engineer for the Client's account; <br />c. Furnishing engineering data, where necessary, for application for regulat- <br />ory permits required by local, state, or federal authorities (as distinguished <br />from detailed applications and supporting documents for government <br />grants-in-aid or planning grants which are provided for under Special Ser- <br />vices); <br />d. Preparation of detailed contract drawings, in penciL" <br />e. Preparation of specifications, contract documents, and estimates; and <br />f. Furnishing to the Client a specified number of copies of drawings, specifi- <br />cations, and other contract drawings for final review by the Client and <br />approving authorities. <br />3. The Construction Phase - This phase is undertaken only after the adver- <br />tisement for bids for construction contracts or after the award of the contract by <br />the Client. The basic services may include: <br />a. Office Engineering <br />(I) Assistance to the Client in securing bids, tabulation and analysis of <br />bid resnlts, and furnishing,recommendalionson the award of construc- <br />tion contracts; <br />(2) Assistance in the preparation of formal contract documents for the <br />award of contracts, if desired; <br />(3) Consultation and advice to the Client during construction; <br />(4) Preparation of elementary sketches and supplementary sketches re- <br />quired to resolve actual field conditions encountered; <br />(5) Checking detailed construction drawings and shop and erection draw- <br />ings submitted by contractors for compliance with design concept; and <br />(6) Re.viewing labo):lltory, shop, and mill test reports of materials and <br />equi pment. <br />b. Field Engineering <br />(I) Making periodic visits to the site to observe the work in progress, and <br />providing appropriate reports to the Client; <br />(2), Observing initial operation of the project, or of performance tests <br />required by specifications; and <br />(3) Making a final inspection and reporting on the completed project. <br /> <br />**On some projects, bids may be taken on simplified contract drawings. in which case the detailed <br />drawings are prepared during the C onstrucrion Plw.se. <br />
