storage of flood waters (detention ponds) in Basin 6100 has
practical application. Existing ponds or proposed ponds will
help reduce damages downstream.

The undeveloped reaches of the drainageways downstream of the
Arapahoe-Jefferson county line should be regulated, or property
should be acquired to preclude future development in the flood
plain.

The cost difference between faQility designs for 10- and
100-year frequency storms is not large, while the damage
associated with the 100-year flood is significantly greater.
Thus, the 100-year storm event was chosen as the design flood
for this study.

All but one of the benefit-cost ratios calculated for the
alternative drainage controls were below 1.0. Thus, the
recommended alternatives should be based on least cost unless
additional expenses can be justified in response to desires of
the citizens.

Multi-use of drainageway plans, such as for green belts and
bike trails, can be coordinateQ with local park and recreation
districts to share costs and maintenance of the facilities.

The positive environmental effects of implementing a drainageway
plan in the study area will outweigh the temporary disturbances
during the construction of the flood control facilities.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Various flood control measures were studied for the different
basin reaches. The recommended basinwide drainageway plans
were developed based on the Phase A and phase B findings and
the review and suggestions of the Urban Drainage and Flood
Control District and Arapahoe and Jefferson Counties. The
preliminary design of the selected control measures is summarized
below. Generally the drainageway plans are a mixture of
control facilities in the wider flood plain reaches in combina-
tion with nonstructura1 measures in the narrow flood plain
sections where flow damage to existing or future development
should not be extensive.

BASIN 6100

The alternative solutions for each
benefit-cost ratios less than 1.0.
cost alternatives are recommended.

reach of Basin 6100 have
On this basis, the least

2-2

I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I

I

I
I
I
I
I
I
