A peak on the Arkansas River on 19 October was caused by

runoff from the north side of the Arkansas River east of La Junta,

Colorado. The flow peaked at Holly around midnight on 19 October

and was prolonged by runoff from Two Butte Creek and smaller tribu-

taries along the south bank of the Arkansas River. A second peak

was chiefly caused by runoff from the Purgatoire River. This flow

combined with flow already in the Arkansas River to produce a peak

App. 4
5
