County <br />in north-central Montana. Major flooding ha. occurred periodically <br />throughout the Milk River basin as recently as September 1986. Malta <br />staged a successful flood fight during this event. The flood problems, <br />potential solutions, and recommendations are addressed in this reconnai.- <br />sance report. <br /> <br />STUDY AUTHOIUT1' <br /> <br />Thi. .tudy was authorized under Section 205 of the Flood Control Act <br />of 1948, as amended, and was conducted in accordance with the Principles <br />and Guidelines for Water and Related Land Resources Planning. <br /> <br />REPORT AND STUD! PROCESS <br /> <br />Federal water resource planning by the Corps of Engineers is <br /> <br /> <br />accomplished in two phases..a reconnaissance phase and a feasibility <br /> <br /> <br />phase. The reconnaissance phase is conducted at full Federal expense, <br /> <br />while the cost of the feasibility phase is shared equally between the <br /> <br /> <br />Federal Government and the non-Federal sponsor(s). This report contains <br /> <br /> <br />a sUlDDary of investigations, results, conclusions, and recommendations of <br /> <br /> <br />the reconnaissance phase. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />
