I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Simons, Li and Associates, Inc.
Job Number 6143J002
Project Portland Flume Reconstruction

that temporary support will be required for this structure if con-
struction activities remain within the new alignment.

Structure No. 4P - (Sta. 12 + 05): Due to the depth of the exist-
ing basement footing and the distance from the new construction,
it does not appear that temporary support will be required for the
main structure. However, some wooden steps at the northeast cor-
ner of the house are located immediately adjacent to the flume
wall, and probably will require temporary support during construc-
tion,

Structure No. 5P - (Sta. 11 + 37): It does not appear that this
structure will require temporary support, However, due to the
relatively heavy foundation loading of this building, it should be
monitored closely during construction, It appears that inclined
bracing or pit underpinning would be feasible for this structure.

Structure No. 6P - (Sta, 8 + 94): It appears that the alignment
of the flume will be shifted approximately 4 feet north and deep-
ened approximately 5 feet at this location, It appears that this
structure will require temporary support and possibly some type of
permanent underpinning, particularly along the west end, due to
the deepening of the flume at this location. Several methods
appear to be feasible for this structure. The concrete and stone
basement/stem wall will probably require some lateral support.

Structure No. 7P - (Sta, 8 + 14): It appears that the alignment
of the flume will be shifted approximately 4 feet north and deep-
ened approximately 4 feet at this location, Due to the shallow
stone footing present under this structure, it appears that tem-
porary support will be required, It is doubtful that the stone
foundation will clear span any reasonable distance, .therefore,
some type of carrier beam will probably be required.

-12-

@
