PAULSON
PRINCIPAL ENGINEER

EDUCATION

M.S., Water Resources Engineering, University of California, Los
Angeles, 1978
B.A., Applied Mechanics and Engineering Science, University of
California, San Diego, 1977

LICENSE

Professional Engineer (Civil) in California, #32044

SUMMARY

Mr. Paulson is a Principal Engineer with Montgomery Watson responsible for conducting and
supervising work related to water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain management,
stormwater quantity and quality control, environmental evaluations, flood control design, and
other aspects of civil engineering.

Mr. Paulson has 19 years of experience in the areas of water resources investigations, floodplain
hydrology and hydraulics, environmental evaluations, stormwater quality, reservoir system
simulation, river restoration, stormwater master plans, watershed management, and drainage
design. He has had project engineering and management responsibility for flood insurance
studies, hydrologic evaluations, master plans, stormwater permitting, design of stormwater
management systems, river restoration studies, and environmental impact studies. The majority
of his experience has involved the use of computer modeling to solve complex water resources
problems.

Mr. Paulson attended a floodplain hydrology training course focusing on the HEC-1 program; a
hydropower modeling training course using the HEC-5 and HYDUR computer programs; and a
sedimentation engineering training course focusing on scour, deposition, and modeling of fluvial
processes with the HEC-6 computer program. He also attended an EPA-sponsored workshop
providing training in the use of the QUAL-II river water quality simulation computer program. In
addition, he was an instructor at two floodplain management seminars sponsored by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency.

EXPERIENCE

Storm water Management Plans

Mr. Paulson has prepared drainage studies for urbanizing watersheds employing the HEC-1, TR-
20, ILLUDAS, and SWMM computer programs, as well as hydrology and hydraulics programs
developed for specific communities. He has prepared master plans recommending a variety of
improvements including lined and unlined channels, storm drains, levees, detention basins and
pump stations. Representative projects include:

~ MONTGOMERY WATSON
