<br />Appurtenant Structure: shall mean a structure on the
<br />same parcel of property as the principal structure, the
<br />use of which is incidental to the use of the principal
<br />structure.

<br />Assistance: Any form of Federal grant under section
<br />404 to implement cost effective mttigation measures
<br />that will reduce the risk of future damage, hardship,
<br />loss, or suffering as a resutt of major disasters,
<br />
<br />Base Flood: shall mean the flood having a one-percent
<br />chance of being equaled or exceeded in magnttude in
<br />any given year, (Also knows as the 100-Year Flood),
<br />This is the flooding event that is used to calculate flood

<br />Base Flood Elevation: means the height (above sea-
<br />level) that flood waters will reach at a given location in
<br />the event of the Base pOD-year) flooding event
<br />
<br />Basement: shall mean any area of the building having
<br />its floor subgrade (below ground level) on all sides.
<br />
<br />Bench Mar/(: means a permanent marker or monument
<br />of known elevation and horizontal location used for sur-
<br />veying.
<br />
<br />Building: means a walled and roofed structure, other
<br />than a gas or liquid storage tank, that is principally
<br />above ground and affixed to a permanent stte, including
<br />a manufactured (i,e" mobile) home on a permanent
<br />foundation, (See Structure),
<br />
<br />Community: Any state or area or political subdivision
<br />thereof, or any Indian tribe or authorized tribal organiza.-
<br />tion, or authorized native organization which has au-
<br />thority to adopt and enforce floodplain management
<br />regulations for the areas within its jurisdiction,
<br />
<br />Conveyance: is a measure of the water carrying ca-
<br />pacity of a stream reach.
<br />
<br />Crou Section (XSEC): means surveyed ground points
<br />along a line that shows the geometry of the floodplain
<br />and channel,
<br />
<br />Damage Assessment: The systematic process of de-
<br />termining and appraising the nature and extent of the
<br />loss, suffering, or harm to a community resulting from
<br />an emergencyldisaster,
<br />
<br />Damage Survey Report (DSR): A report of damages
<br />caused by a major disaster or emergency including Ie>-
<br />cation, description, and estimate of required work.
<br />
<br />Dam Safety - A program to inventory, dassify and in-
<br />spect dams to identify hazardous conditions and insure
<br />proper maintenance through corrective orders for the
<br />purpose of protecting human Iffe and property. A dam
