Appendix C
How to Obtain FEMA
Publications and Backup
Data for NFIP Maps

To comply with the supporting data
requirements discussed in this Guide, community
officials and others who wish to submit appeals
or request Map Revisions or Map Amendments
to NFIP maps may find it necessary to obtain
copies of FHBMs, FIRMs, FBFMs, FIS reports,
backup data for NFIP maps, or FEMA
publications that further explain the appeal,
map revision, and map amendment processes.
As discussed below, those materials generally
are available from the FEMA Flood Map
Distribution Center or the FEMA Regional
Offices. (See Appendix D.)

FEMA Publications

After an NFIP map for a community has been
issued in preliminary form, and again after it has
been published, copies of the map and, if
applicable, the accompanying FIS report are sent
to the community. The community stores the
copies in an official, local repository, where they
are to be made available for community
residents and other interested parties to review.

The community map repository is often in the
office of a floodplain administrator, community
engineer, planner, or clerk. FEMA also sends
copies of LOMAs that amend NFIP maps and
copies of all LOMRs to the local map repository.

Copies of effective NFIP maps can also be
obtained from the FEMA Flood Map Distribution
Center. Requests for copies of effective maps
should be sent to the following address:

Federal Emergency Management Agency
Flood Map Distribution Center
6930 (A-F) San Tomas Road
Baltimore, Maryland 21227-6227

Requestors can also place an order for NFIP maps
by calling the Flood Map Distribution Center toll
free at 1 (800) 333-1363.

When ordering a copy of a map, the requestor
must specify the full name of the community
and the NFIP community number or map
number shown in the title box of the map.
When the map consists of more than one panel,
the Flood Map Distribution Center will provide
copies of individual panels rather than the entire
map; therefore, the requestor may also be
required to specify panel numbers.

Requestors will be charged for maps unless they
are representatives of Federal, State, and local
governments; lending institutions; insurance
agents; insurance brokers; and Write Your Own
Insurance companies who are directly involved
in the NFIP. Payment may be made by VISA or
MASTERCARD or by personal check made
payable to "NFIP"

To help communities and individual map users,
FEMA has prepared the following documents
that provide additional information about the
NFIP, NFIP maps, and the appeal, map revision,
and map amendment processes:

. National Flood Insurance Proqram and
Related Requlations -- Reprints the
regulations that govern the
administration of the NFIP including the
appeal, map revision, and map
amendment processes

. Questions and Answers on the National
Flood Insurance Proqram -- Provides
answers to frequently asked questions
about the purpose and operation of the
NFIP, flood insurance and floodplain
management requirements, and the
mapping of flood hazards under the
NFIP

C-l
