<br />as financial protection against flood losses that <br />do occur. <br /> <br />The 90-day appeal period is the statutory <br />period, beginning on the date of second <br />publication of the proposed BFEs in the local <br />newspaper, during which community officials <br />and individual residents may appeal the <br />proposed BFEs by submitting data to show that <br />the BFEs are scientifically or technically incorrect. <br /> <br />A physical map revision is the revision and <br />republication of an NFIP map. <br /> <br />Proposed BFEs are those BFEs published in the <br />Federal Reqister and local newspaper at the start <br />of the 90-day appeal period. <br /> <br />A Protest is an objection to any information, <br />other than BFEs, shown on an NFIP map that is <br />submitted by a community or individual resident <br />during the 90-day appeal period. <br /> <br />A Revision is a change to an effective NFIP map, <br />which is accomplished by a LOMR or by a <br />physical map revision. <br /> <br />Scientifically incorrect BFEs are BFEs determined <br />through analyses in which the methodologies <br />used and/or assumptions made are <br />inappropriate for the physical processes bei ng <br />eval uated or are otherwise erroneous. <br /> <br />The 6-month compliance period is the period, <br />beginning with the date of the final BFE <br />determination and ending with the effective <br />date of the FIRM, during which the community <br />must enact and adopt the ordinances required <br />for continued participation in the NFIP. <br /> <br />Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) are the <br />areas delineated on an NFIP map as being <br />subject to inundation by the base (100-year) <br />flood. SFHAs may be designated Zone A, AO, <br />AH, A1-A30, AE, V, Vl-V30, orVE. <br /> <br />Technically incorrect BFEs are BFEs determined <br />through analyses in which the methodologies <br />used have not been properly applied, are based <br />on insufficient or poor quality data, or do not <br />account for the effects of physical changes that <br />have occurred in the floodplain. <br /> <br />B-3 <br />
