Mr. Davis is an <br />eye-witness to the failure of Cascade Dan <br /> <br />Further physical inspection was performed <br />of the Cascade Dam site at this time. <br /> <br />Approx. 6:45 P.M. <br /> <br />Proceed to the Horseshoe Falls location <br />at the confluence of the Roaring River and <br />Fall River. Examine and photograph the <br />alluvial moraine deposited at the foot of <br />lhefalls. <br /> <br />8:15 P.M. <br /> <br />Depart Estes Park for Denver. Vehicle <br />mileage for 5950 is 45125. <br /> <br />9:55 P. M. <br /> <br />Arri ved in Denver. <br /> <br />Si te Inspection of Lawn Lake <br /> <br />An inspection of Lawn Lake was carried out by John VanSciver and Jim Norfleet with <br />the assistance of Roger Patterson. Thls inspection commenced at 1 :00 P. M. , and <br />was concluder! at 2:30 P.M. The followinq specific items were observed: <br /> <br />1. Spillway -- The emergency spillway is located at the left abutment of the dam <br />and consists of a natural rock channel, through glacial moraine,with trapezoidal <br />cross-section. (See photo 9.) A burried log forms the control section generally <br />in line with the downstream shoulder of the crest of the dam. (See photo 10.) <br />Driftwood debris had deposited in the channel about 20 feet downstream from the <br />control section as shown in photos 11 and 12. This driftwood had a height <br />approximately 12 inches above that of the bottom of the spillway channel and there <br />was evidence of recent water depths at the top of this driftwood pile. Grass <br />and small particles of paper were depOSited along the top of these driftwood logs <br />about 12 inches above the spillway bottom. <br />
