.

.

PUBLIC SERVICE DAM
Public service diversion dam at the Englewood-Littleton sewage treatment
plant.

Physical Characteristics - approximately 3' drop

Constructed of a concrete wall across the river with rock rubble (3'
diameter) placed on the downstream face of the dam.

A water intake structure is constructed on the left bank of the river,
to divert water for the Public Service power plant.

No man-made boat chutes have been constructed through the dam, but the
water has naturally broached slots through the rubble dam along the
left and right banks.

1. Navigability. The upstream entrances of the slots are difficult to see
due to the signal rocks and concentration of the river current.

No possibility of scouting from the boat, must get out on the bank and
scout.

Too much drop at once, very rough and turbulent water, angular rock
protrudes through the slots.

Very difficult to navigate without damage to boat, particularly in low
flow.

Beginning boaters could easily end up broad-side on the rocks.

No "keeper" or Ihole" at the bottom of the drop.

I) b:~; r;2lj f' ..... . ... ...
JI:.tt iJ ~v~ ~ ~'~tih'i~'
