11-5

"

Bates Lake was an irrigation storage reservoir prior to urbanization
in the area. The City of Arvada acquired the land on which the lake was
located and has modified the lake such that normally the area can be used
as a park. The pond configuration has been maintained within the park and
the pond coupled with the inlet and outlet facilities, as constructed,
operates quite well as a storm water detention facility.
C. Topographic and Geologic Features
The relief in the upper portion of the Hidden Lake Planning Basin is
relatively severe with slopes ranging from 10 to 15 percent down to 0.5
percent near Sheridan Blvd. The highest point is approximately elevation
5640 feet. The nominal water surface for Hidden Lake is elevation 5280 feet
and the invert of Clear Creek at the discharge point near Federal Blvd. is
approximately elevation 5195 feet. The total length of the Hidden Lake
p']anning Basin from the highest point on the basin boundary to Clear Creek
is approximately 4.5 miles.
The highest point on the boundary of the Bates Lake Planning Basin is
approximately elevation 5425 feet. The invert of Clear Creek near Sheridan
Blvd. where the Bates Lake basin flows (and Ralston Creek) join Clear Creek
is at elevation 5242 feet. The total length of the Bates Lake Planning Basin
is approximately 1.9 miles.
Geological influences upon the surface drainage conditions are very
muted. The only location within the two planning basins that geological
factors have affected the surface drainage is on the Clear Creek alluvial
terrace where large areas have been excavated to obtain sand and gravel.
These ponds do create a routing effect upon the storm water runoff passing
through these ponds.
