This major drainageway study includes analysis of existing flooding

problems, selection of several alternative improvement designs including

hydraulic analysis of each alternative, cost-benefit analysis to determine the

economically feasible alternatives, and preliminary design of the selected

alternative.

The study area is a mix of commercial and industrial land uses. Flooding
problems are aggravated by numerous road and railroad crossings of the two
creeks and by the relatively flat terrain in the area. The City of Boulder is
planning an extension of Pearl Street to the confluence area and transpor-
tation planning for the extension is incorporated into the drainageway
improvement study.
A Phase A report is being prepared containing all existing flooding
information, conceptual designs of alternative improvement measures, residual
flooding problems associated with each alternative, and cost-benefit
analysis. Upon selection of the best suited alternative, a Phase B report
will be prepared. This report will include preliminary designs of the
selected alternative, detailed hydraulic analysis of the selected alternative,
and detailed cost estimates of the improvements divided into drainage costs,
road and railroad crossing costs, utility relocation costs, property acquisi-
tion costs, and operation and maintenance costs.
