William McDonald
Director

January 27, 1981

TO:

Gene Jencsok

j

FROM: Larry Lang and Brian Hyde

SUBJECT: Trip to Monte vista

A meeting had originally been scheduled to discuss
the Review Draft of the FEMA Flood Insurance Study for the
city of Monte vista with the city Council on January 20, 1981,
but the meeting was cancelled. Instead FEMA staff members
Virginia Motoyama and Bob Kistner and Paul Hindman of
Camp, Dresser, and McKee met briefly with the city manager
'to discuss the small areas at the north end of the city
that were identified in the draft study.

The area shown in this study is smaller than the area
shown in the previous Army Corps of Engineers study. Over
the telephone, Mr. Richard Wray of Camp, Dresser, and McKee
said there were two reasons for the change: 1) increased
detail in the contour map and 2) improvements to some of the
county roads near the river which force flows in different
directions. He also explained that because the Corps study
did not include flows other than the 100 year flow, Camp,
Dresser, and McKee recalculated the flows based several
more years of records. using the area proportions, they
did and testing the results with confidence limits, he
felt satisfied with their study. They will be asked to
explain the above in writing.

LL/BH/sd

..............
