.

tI
MEMORl\NDUM

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
J. William McDonald
Director

TO: Gene Jencsok

FROM: Larry Lang and Brian Hyde
state Assistance Program

DATE: January 27, 1981

SUBJECT: Trip to Rio Grande County

On January 21, 1981, CWCB staff met with Rio Grande county
Attorney Bill Miller and with the administrative assistant to the
County Commissioners, Suzanne.

Three areas of the county were discussed. First was the
South Fork area where a study by the Water Conservation Board was
recently prepared. The county has copies of that study fOr its
review prior to a request for designation by the ewCB. Second
was the unincorporated area near Del Norte. In preparing the FEMA
study for the town, Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc., collected enough
information to make a study of the unincorporated area near Del
Norte relatively easy and inexpensive. It was suggested that the
possibility of such a study, perhaps being extended a little
further upstream and/or downstream, at no cost to the county, be
considered. Third was the unincorporated area near Monte vista.
As was the case in Del Norte, enough work was done for Monte vista
to make mapping of unincorporated areas about 2 miles upstream
and 2 miles downstream of the city relatively easy and inexpensive.
The county will be contacted again fairly soon about these three
areas.

The Corps' FPI study for Monte vista, Colorado, would be
replaced by a Board FPI study performed by CDM. You are reqUested]
to obtain cost proposals for the accomplishment of these studies.

LL:BH:tam

I
, ., do
vJJY 6~
