<br /> <br />State of Colorado 1276-DR-CO <br />Interagency Hazard Mitigation Team Report <br /> <br />July 1999 <br /> <br />ISSUE: Containers of hazardous materials in floodwaters <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: Unrestrained propane tanks became torpedoes once they were <br />dislodged and floating downstream in floodwaters. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: Create a public awareness campaign to educate the public of ways <br />to anchor /locate tanks in a safe manner. <br /> <br />LEAD AGENCY: Colorado Department of Health <br /> <br />PARTNER AGENCIES: County Health Departments <br />Colorado State University Extension Service <br />Local Fire Departments <br />Colorado Office of Emergency Management <br />Local Emergency Planning Council <br /> <br />TIME FRAME: Expand public awareness from the Disaster Recovery Centers to <br />the public statewide. <br /> <br />IMMEDIATE STEP: Continue distribution of existing and pertinent hazard mitigation <br />material from Colorado Office of Emergency Management and <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency <br /> <br />PROGRESS: Update progress in six (6) months with State Hazard Mitigation <br />Team <br /> <br />FUNDING: Colorado Office of Emergency Management <br />Colorado Department of Health <br /> <br />21 <br />
