<br /> <br />State of Colorado l276-DR-CO <br />Interagency Hazard Mitigation Team Report <br /> <br />July 1999 <br /> <br />ISSUE: <br /> <br />Lack of guidance and criteria for mapping and <br />regulating of mudflow/debris-flow areas. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />Mudflow/debris-flow hazard area identification is in its infancy in <br />the Westem United States. Several states, including Colorado <br />have significant risk and vulnerability to this hazard. FEMA has <br />just begun to map mudflow/debris-flow areas in Colorado. <br />However, the state has not adopted criteria or guidelines for such <br />mappmg. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: Develop guidance and criteria for mappmg and regulating <br />mudflow/debris-flowareas. <br /> <br />LEAD AGENCY: Colorado Water Conservation Board <br /> <br />PARTNER AGENCIES: Colorado Geologic Survey <br /> <br />TIME FRAME: Complete by May 2000 <br /> <br />IMMEDIATE STEP: Draft guidelines and criteria to be incorporated into the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board's existing floodplain mapping <br />guidelines and criteria. <br /> <br />PROGRESS: Report progress to State Hazard Mitigation Team in six (6) <br />months. <br /> <br />FUNDING: Colorado Water Conservation Board-existing funding <br /> <br />22 <br />
