Daly Drainage
Job No. 661.01

Dear John:

This letter is to reiterate our recommendation for
the two proposed interceptor drainage ditches on Mt. Daly as
discussed in our letter of July 23, 1973. Based on the field
investigation completed August 13 and 14, we feel the best
location for these ditches is as staked in the field, tying
into the existing ditch and trail alignments where possible.

At this time, it would be expedient to begin con-
struction of the ditches and complementary structures. The
ditches should be on approximately a 3% grade and should dis-
turb the natural vegetation as little as possible. It is
recommended that the ditch alignment be wide enough to per-
mit access to the total length of the ditch by a wheeled or
tracked vehicle to facilitate maintenance.

The upper ditch, located above the Marble Village
Inn will require two interceptor ditch diversion structures
located on the two streams draining the upper ski area by
the water-bar network. A typical design for this structure
is shown on the attached drawing. Other tributaries to the
ditch should be well armored with riprap which will remain
stable during periods of above-normal flow. The outfall from
the ditch will be a corrugated metal pipe running downhill
from the end of the interceptor ditch located just off the
south edge of the main ski trail. A typical design for this
facility is also attached. At this time, the pipe can be
extended to a point directly below the access road to the
Village Inn.

The lower Schindel Haus interceptor ditch should
begin at the downstream end of the 42" CMP directly east of
the Schindel Haus. The alignment of this ditch has been
located in the field and should tie into the existing trail
,

CIVil ENGINEERING I

I STO'M e''1'NAGE

I
T~'

I STRUCTURAL I TRANSPORTATION / WATER: a.
