Develop training materials about mitigation, <br /> <br />Figure 6.2 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />6.1.4 Role of Local Government Emergency <br />Managers and Floodplain <br />Coordinbators <br />Local government emergency management and <br />floodplain coordinators are frequently forced by muttiple <br />roles and job demands to deal with mitigation issues <br />and projects, Throughout the mtligation planning <br />process, the county EMCs and floodplain coordinators <br />have played an important role, They are the local level <br />contact and the coordinator of mitigation <br />implementation, programs and activities, In that role, the <br />county EMC is the key communication point between <br />the state and local level and between local community <br />agencies and organizations, <br /> <br />Local government emergency management <br />coordinators and floodplain managers will assist in <br />implementing this plan at the local level. Among their <br />suggested actions are: <br /> <br />. Working closely and communicating with the OEM <br />Local Services staff and the SHMO to implement <br />mtligation recommendations <br /> <br />. Conducting public awareness and education activities <br />on mtligation, its importance and methods <br /> <br />~ <br />, <br />~ <br />::Ii <br />, <br /> <br />Effectively communicate to local government <br />officials and emergency managers a clear <br />understanding of their roles and <br />responsibiltties regarding mitigation, <br /> <br />2 Improve their level of understanding olthe <br />concepts and realities of delivering mitigation <br />successfully to Colorado's local governments, <br /> <br />3 Coordinate mitigation activities and intliatives <br />with state agency field offices, <br /> <br />4 Assist the Public Assistance Officer in <br />response and recovery operations following <br />flood events, <br /> <br />5 Conduct training workshops on preparedness, <br />response, recovery and mitigation including <br />the delivery and promotion of the Colorado <br />Flood Hazard Mttigation Plan to local <br />government officials <br /> <br />6 Attend mitigation training opportunities, as <br />available. <br /> <br />7 Assist local emergency managers in <br />identifying critical facilities, infrastructure, <br />residential, nonresidential, and commercial <br />structures in Colorado's floodprone <br />communtties, <br /> <br />Figure 6.3 <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />~_:U -,i~-", <l!!.~~"~,~- <br /> <br />.
