<br />During the month of June 1995, flood damage throughout Morgan County topped $12 million, <br />An estimated 22,000 acres of agricultural land were damaged, Bridges were destroyed, and <br />roads were washed out. Residences were impacted, resulting in one family being evacuated by <br />Hovercraft, The flooding event was caused by heavy rainstorms with hail. <br /> <br />SEVERE WEATHER EVENTS <br /> <br />Morgan County's communities have experienced snow blizzards, micro bursts, tornadoes, and <br />severe lightning storms, <br /> <br />During the month of May 1998, a severe weather storm producing hail traveled through Morgan <br />County, The communities affected by this fast-moving front were Wiggins, Log Lane Village, <br />Fort Morgan, and Brush, Hail ranging in size from marbles to golf balls caused a considerable <br />amount of damage to residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural properties, <br />In June of 1998 Morgan County experienced yet another severe storm producing large amounts <br />of hail. As a result of these two storms, over $31.8 million have been paid out in claims by the <br />insurance industry to date, <br /> <br />Tornadoes <br />According to the National Weather Service, Morgan County, experienced fifty tornadoes <br />between 1950 and 1998, On May 30, 1996, two tornadoes simultaneously touched down <br />approximately two miles south of Fort Morgan, The tornado's were <br />reported to the Morgan County Communications Center by a citizen in <br />Fort Morgan, On this particular day no Severe Weather Watches or <br />Warnings were issued for Morgan County, Just south of Fort Morgan a <br />small farm was devastated, destroying the residence and dairy buildings; <br />miraculously, two young children and an adult escaped with minor <br />injuries, Approximately two miles west of that location, a small oil <br />refinery was damaged by one of the 1996 Twin Tornadoes <br />tornadoes, The entire community of Fort <br />Morgan responded to assist in the clean up effort, The local <br />American Red Cross assisted with housing the family for a week at <br />a local motel.
