Loveland, Colorado. Irrigation releases through Horsetooth and Soldier
Canyon Dam outlet works are made by personnel from the Northern Colorado
Water Conservancy District (Conservancy District) located at 1250 Wilson
Avenue, Loveland, Colorado.

The four dams and dike are rock and earthfill-type structures
cresting at elevation 1659.6 m (5440+5 ft). The foundation is composed
of firm shale and sandstone covered with 0-7.6 m (0-25 ft) of sandy clay
and topsoi 1. Each of the four dams has a concrete cutoff wall, foun-
dation grout curtain, and downstream toe drains to slow down and control
seepage.

Only two dams have provisions for making irrigation, municipal, and
industrial releases. Horsetooth Dam houses two 2591-mm (102-in) hollow-
jet valves used for irrigation purposes to the north and east of Fort
Collins.

Soldier Canyon Dam contains the 1372-mm (54-in) emergency butterfly
valve to the city of Fort Coll ins and the rural domestic treatment
plant, Colorado State University's hydraulic laboratory, and Dixon
Feeder Canal conduits. The above are all enclosed in the Soldier Canyon
control house and are equipped with regulating valves.

The following 'information provides dam and embankment data:

Soldier Dixon Spring
Horsetooth Satanka Canyon Canyon Canyon
Dam Dike Dam Dam Dam
(m/ft) (m/ft) (m/ft) (m/ft) (m/ft)
Structural 47.2 m 9.1 m 68.9 m 73.2 m 57.1 m
height 155 ft 30 ft 225 ft 240 ft 220 ft
*Hydraul ic Offstream Offstream 61.9 m 65.5 m 60.4 m
height 160 ft 30 ft 213 ft 225 ft 208 ft
Top width 10.7 m 7.6 m 12.21 m 12.2 m 12.2 m
35 ft 25 ft 40 ft 40 ft 40 ft
Maximum base 239.3 m 36.5 m 415.1 m 457.2 m 411. 5 m
width 785 ft 120 ft 1365 ft 1500 ft 1350 ft
Crest length 560.8 m 106.1 m 438.3 m 385.5 m 341.4 m
1840 ft 348 ft 1438 ft 1265 ft 1120 ft
Crest 1559.6 m 1659.6 m 1659.6 m 1659.6 m 1659.6 m
elevation 5440+5 ft 5440+5 ft 5440+5 ft 5440+5 ft 5440+5 ft
2
