Olson, Chief
Natural & Technological Hazards Division
Federal Emergency Management Agency Region
Denver Federal Center, Bldg 710
Denver, CO 80225

Dear Mr. Olson:

In preparation for the presentation of the preliminary flood
insurance study to City Council on February 13, 1984, I have
reviewed the preliminary maps. I have found several of the
questions and comments presented to Camp, Dresser & McKee, Inc.
on March 4, 1983 and subsequently discussed at a meeting on
April 12, 1983, have not been answered. I have listed those
concerns on the attached comment sheets.

In addition to the attached comments, I have the following
additional concerns. The City of Colorado Springs is currently
finalizing master drainage studies for five drainage basins.
The drainage basin master studies are in Dry Creek, Cheyenne
Creek, Cottonwood Creek, pine Creek, and Mesa Basin. The results
of these five drainage studies may have significant impact on
the base flood elevations in their respective basins. In parti-
cular, the Dry Creek Master Drainage Study includes a floodplain
mapping and was intended to augment the flood insurance study.
Most of the studies will be finalized during the succeeding
90 days, and it is my intent to provide your office with the
technical data for review in consideration of the final base flood
elevations.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

~i!!cerf.' :)/, .J/,

Gar R.
