ELECTRONIC COMPUTER PROGRAM ABSTRACT
TITLE OF PROGRAM [ROGRAM NO.
Basin Rainfall and Snowmelt Computation . 723-Gl-L7260 -----
PREPARING AGENCY The Hydrologic Engineering Center, u. s. Army Corps of Engineers
600 Second Street Davis California QS6l6
AUT HOR{S, UATI:. PROGRAM COMPLETED ST ATUS OF PROGRAM
-----
Leo R. Beard July 1966 PHASE I.T~:E.
TnH.
A. PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
This program is designed to compute basin input (rainfall plus snowmelt) values
for a storm. It will (a) compute basin mean precipitation from station precipi
tation weighted in any designated proportion and on the basif.l, if desired, of
normal seasonal precipitation; (b) determine, if desired, whether each period
of precipitation is rain or snowfall in each lOOO-foot elevation zones, sub-
tracting snowfall from precipitation and adding to snowpack; and (c) determine,
if desired snCMmelt during each period in each looO-foot elevation zone, add-
ing to basin input and subtracting from snowpack.
B. PROGRAM IPEC,,.,CATIONS
The program is dimensioned for a maximum of 100 nonrecording and 100 recording
precipitation stations (no more than 25 of each for anyone subbasin). Maxi-
mum number of precipitation intervals is 500. Maxinmm number of lOoo-foot ele-
vation zones is 10.
C. M~T HODS
Ba:sin-mean total precipitation is computed as a weighted average of station
precipitation and is distributed in intervals in accordance with weighted
patterns of recorder gages. Snowmelt is computed as a linear function of
temperature .
D. EQUIPMENT DET AI1.S and 21,000 words of core storage.
Program requires a FORl'RAN II compiler
E. INPUT-OUTPUT
Card input and printer and card output.
F. ADDITIONAL REMARKS
This program has been combined with a m.unber of smaller prograJllS to make a
package for more efficient use, maximum flexibility and ease of operational
control.
