The pro-
gram is one dimensional and is used to evaluate the vertical stratification
for up to 18 physical chemical and biological parameters.
This program is intended to interface on input (from upstream analysis) and out
put (for downstream analysis) with both the Stream Hydraulics and the Stream
Water Quality computer programs. The three programs together are referred to
as the Water Quality for River-Reservoir Systems Model (WQRRS).
8. ....oaR,... '''C'I'ICATIOIlI
The program is written in FORTRAN IV. Dimensions allow for 100 horizontal
layers in the reservoir, 10 discharge levels, and 10 inflow tributaries.
There are no dimensional limits on the number to reservoirs which can be
analyzed. Specifications for the computation, input and output intervals
must equal or exceed one hour.
c. ..T HOO&
The density of the water in each horizontal layer is a function of temperature,
which is determined by a basic energy budget computation, and the organic and
inorganic solid concentrations. Inflows are brought into the reservoir at
their respective density levels and the associated quality parameters are
distributed vertically by advection, diffusion and settling where appropriate.
All reaction rates are adjusted based on the calculated temperatures.
D. .QUINIENT DCT AILS
The program is operational on the CDC 7600 and the UNIVAC 1108 but may be used
on other high speed computers with minor modifications. The program requires
51K words of storage on the CDC 7600. Program input options allow the user to
specify input-output unit numbers. In addition to these units, unit numbers 5,
6 and 7 are reserved for the card reader, line printer and card punch respect-
ively.
Il. IlInI" ""'"' ,
Cards are used for general input information but either cards or magnetic tape
can be used for data transfer from previous runs made for other upstream
reservoirs or tributary rivers. The printer is used for general output infor-
mation but either cards or magnetic tape can be used for data transfer to down-
stream reservoirs or river channels in a system analysis.
'0 ADDITIONAL .....A..a
Correct application of this program requires interdisciplinary technical
expertise. The output should be carefully evaluated by technical personnel
with training in hydrologic engineering and aquatic chemistry and biology.
National Weather Service (NWS) data is readily available from Ashvi1le, NC in
format CD144. A separate utility program is available from the HEC for con-
verting the NWS data to the standard formats of this program.

~:;'Oll: 2883

......IOU. aDITION. Alt.
