<br />. <br /> <br />Microsoft Access and STORM Watch <br />Seeurity measures are provided for the STORM Watch database because SWATCH2,MDB can be <br />aeeessed direetly through the MS Aeeess application, <br /> <br />Default Vs. STORM Watch workgroup <br />When you open MS Aeeess, Access may prompt you for a logon name and password, Aeeess gets <br />its user and group aecount information from the workgroup, The default workgroup hat eomes with <br />MS Access is a file called SYSTEM,MDW, located thelWindows\System direetory. <br /> <br />The STORM Wateh database was ereated under its own unique workgroup, This workgroup is ealled <br />SWATCH2,MDW and is loeated in the STORM Wateh program directory, Youcan open and view the <br />SWATCH2,MDB database in MS Aecess with either workgroup, but to edit or delete data you must <br />first join the STORM Wateh workgroup, described below, <br /> <br />Seleeting a workgroup for use with MS Access does not affeet the operation of STORM IJVIteh, <br />STORM Wateh knows where to find its own workgroup, <br /> <br />Using the STORM Watch Workgroup <br />After joining the STORM Watch workgroup you must then log on to Aecess as a user defined in this <br />workgroup, The level of data aeeess you have in a database is determired by the permissions set for <br />your user aeeount and the permissions set for the groups this user aeeount belong to. <br /> <br />Using the Default Workgroup <br />When you use the MS Aeeess default workgroup and you are not prompted to log on, you log on as <br />Admin by default. You will not be prompted for a logon name and password until you assign a <br />password for the Admin user, You will then able to log on under other aceounts. Any user in the <br />. default workgroup can view the data in the database but cannot modify, add or deletedata, <br /> <br />~ote: The database, SWATCH2,MDB, is secured using the standard MS Access security tools, For <br /> <br />a full description oj general database security issues lookup the key word, Security, in MS <br />Acessonline help, <br /> <br />Joining the STORM Watch Workgroup <br /> <br />Procedure for joining the STORM Watch workgroup <br />You are prompted to join the workgroup during your initial install. However, if you did not do so at the <br />time of installation you ean do it now, <br /> <br />The STORM Watch workgroup is SWATCH2,MDW and should be located in the STCRM Watch <br />direetory, To join this workgroup, follow the steps below, <br /> <br />1. Find and double-diek the MS Aecess Workgroup Administrator ieon (the program <br />name is Wrkgadm,exe) that comes with MS Access, <br /> <br />2, Choose the Join button from the dialog box, <br /> <br />3 STORM Watch work group, swatch2,mdw, in the STORM Watch direetory (usually <br />under Program files), <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />4, Choose OK, <br /> <br />32 <br />
