.

.

.

MWC

NWS Messages Index "Current"

Data Files
Data files are frequently transferred, like status files, but they are distinguisted from status files in that
their history is important. Therefore, we maintain a larger set of these files on the server. Like the
status files, data files have a "C" and a "Q" file for the eurrent and quarterly data; however, data files
also have hourly ("H") and daily ("D") files, The data files consist of DataChron data and time series
data,

The data files are:

Filename

Data File Type

DCCD

DataChron current data

DCQDn

DataChron data for quarter n

DCHDhh

DataChron data for hour hh

DCDDddmm

DataChron data for day dd of month mm

TSlDddmm

Time Series Interval data for day dd of month mm

TSHDddmm

Time Series Hour data for day dd of month mm

TSDDmmyyyy-

Time Series Day data for month mm of year yyyy

Messages, Watches and Warnings
The FTP Client also transfers NWS messages from the FTP server. These filenames eonsist of a
three-letter code from the MWW Profile, a three-digit serial number, and the two-letter source eode of
the NWS Messages DCS, The file extension is ,WSM, For example, a tornado warning might be
named TOR027XX.wSM,

Database security

Security Background Information

Why have security?
Security is implemented in STORM Watch primarily to protect the vital components of the database
required to run the program from users who open the database using MS Access 97@. The user has
been provided two levels of data aeeess for their own internal use to eontrol who ean view or ehange
information: (1) The STORM Watch Administrator group has full access to the data, (2) The STORM
Watch User group has read-only access to the data SG data can be protected from accidental
deletion or modification. A third user aceount, the STORM Wateh Super User, is preYided for custom
user aeeount management and emergeney database editing and should be used with extreme
prejudiee,

Security only applies to the STORM Watch database, SWATCH2,MDB, When STORM Watch is
running it has full eontrol of the database, The user (aryone who has access to running the program)
is restrieted to add and modify data in ways determined by the features in the program,

31
