Causei- This flood was cause~ by runoff from snowmelt <br />and from some rain. toe in the channel .agg,avatedthe flood <br />condition. <br /> <br />. .. <br />2. Extent. - Severe overbank flow stiaH;ed near the north ~ine <br />of Burt County and was continuous to the mouth. . In places the <br />overbank flOW obtained. a maximUm width of approximately three~ <br />fdurths of a mile. <br /> <br />3. Duration.- Flooding began on 25 Marchand lasted approxi- <br />mately 3 days. <br /> <br />4. Stages and discharges.- Stage data recorded at a stream <br />gaging station near Uehling, Nebraska, are not at hand. According <br />to local interests, this was one of the most severe floods <br />experienced in recent years.. <br /> <br />5. Damages.~ A total area estimated at 10,000 acres was <br />inundated to shallow depth. This area was almost entirely agricultural <br />land. Some winter wheat and alfalfa .fields were flooded but damage <br />was 'slight as not much sediment Was deposited aad..the fields drained <br />quiokly. No farmsteads were flooded, and no loss of livestock was <br />reported. The town park at Oakland was inundated, neoessitating, <br />oonsiderable cleanup expense and los~ of use until the ground <br />dried. Ten county roads were inundated at points of bridge <br />orossing, sustaining some erosion and:pulvert damage, and were <br />impassable for about three days because of mud. Another county <br />road bridge near the mouth sustained. damage to .the abutment fills, <br />necessitating closure for one week. One human life was lost: <br />Robert Lindahl, 7 years old, of Randolph, Nebraska, slipped into <br />a flood swollen tributary of Logan Creek near Randolph and was <br />drowned. The body was recovered several days later by members of <br />a local National Guard unit called out to aid in. the .search. <br /> <br />6.
