<br />PURPOSE OF WORKSHOP
<br />To explore and implement multi-objective strategies to
<br />reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life
<br />and property from floods. These strategies are called
<br />multi-objective because they address a wide range of
<br />community concerns and objectives such as natural
<br />hazards, economic sustainability, water quality, open
<br />space, wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation, and cultural
<br />values. The planning workshop is proposed as a way to
<br />develop a plan for an area at risk from natural hazards
<br />in an intensive, effective, and time-efficient manner.

<br />water project district{s), local county and city man-
<br />agers and planners, Federal Emergency Management
<br />Agency, National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of
<br />Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish
<br />and Wildlife Service, Soil Conservation Service,

<br />workshop will require expertise in graphic presentation,
<br />fish and wildlife, civil engineering, applied fluvial geo-
<br />morphology, water quality, history, planning, hazard
<br />mitigation, soil erosion, highway design, hydrology, and
<br />other areas (a current mailing list is attached).

<br />PROPOSED PROCESS
<br />Pre-workshop site visit by selected planning team
<br />members to view planning area, ascertain data needs,
<br />develop preliminary identification of planning foci
<br />and begin determination of individuals to interview.
<br />
<br />WORKSHOP DAY ONE
<br />Neutral, responsible official (e.g., Patrick Gross, Aid to
<br />Representative Johnson) kicks off workshop, giving
<br />overall charge to participants. Brief sketches given of
<br />resource related issues in the planning area. Participants
