<br /> <br /> <br />THROUGHOUT THE WORKSHOP <br /> <br />STEP 23 <br />Meet with facilitators and recorders every day. Daily morn- <br />ing and evening sessions will help avoid problems and keep <br />everyone in tune with the workshop progress. <br /> <br />STEP 24 <br />Continue media coverage. Local nev..rspapers and radio and <br />television stations should be alerted to stories of potential <br />interest to their audiences. Photographers, reporters, or <br />camera cre",,'s may wish to observe parts of the meeting. <br /> <br />STEP 25 <br />Have illustrators and photographers working; collect <br />memorable quotations from participants. Professional <br />drawings and photographs done on site, as well as verbatim <br />testimony about the workshop's impact 011 individuals, \\lill <br />be valuable later, especially if one or more formal publica- <br />tions is intended. <br /> <br />STEP 26 <br />Encourage public involvement. Everything possible should <br />be done to make invited individuals feel welcome and com- <br />fortable about expressing themselves and to encourage <br />other residents to attend some or all of the workshop <br />and/or associated public meetings. <br /> <br />PORTABLE <br /> <br />OF KEEPI TRACK OF A <br /> <br />BY THE P NING TEAM <br /> <br />,.,.. <br /> <br />SECO;.JD DAY OF THE WORKSHOP <br /> <br />STEP 27 <br />Conduct field reconnaissance. This is an opportunity for the <br />planning teams to see first -hand the sites and specific prob- <br />lems they heard about on the previous day. Each team will <br />determine its O\,,'n itinerary, perhaps to view hazard-dam- <br />aged areas, sites of potential remedial measures, archaeo- <br />logical or historic districts, or to meet 'with local residents <br />and hear about specific problems and solutions. A local <br />guide will be needed for each van or bus. Cellular tele- <br />phones can help the field reconnaissance teams communi- <br />cate with each other and with sites they will be visiting. <br /> <br />THIRD UAY OF THE WORKSHOP <br /> <br />STEP 28 <br /> <br />Get planning teams ready to formulate specific aspects <br />of their plans. On this day each team prepares for its <br />O\vn topic: <br />. Statements of goals, a list of issues and needs, and <br />descriptions of alternative measures or "solutions" <br />to resolve each of the issues and help reach the goals. <br />These items are to be based on the statements made <br />to each planning team by local residents, on infor- <br />mation gleaned during the field reconnaissance, and <br />on the expertise represented in each group. <br /> <br />. <br />
