This role is crucial to <br />the success of damage assessment The <br />person selected should have some ex- <br />perience in building inspection, engineer- <br />ing and project management The role of <br />the Damage Assessment Coordinator is: <br /> <br />Obtain and record information from <br />each affected area <br /> <br />Alert and activate damage assessment <br />teams and determine assignments. <br /> <br />. Briefs damage assessment teams as to <br />procedures, criteria, checklists, forms, <br />and general situation of the disaster. <br /> <br />. Sets the time, date and location for <br />receiving damage assessment informa- <br />tion and for de-briefing teams. <br /> <br />. Ensures damage assessment is con- <br />ducted in a timely and efficient man- <br />ner. <br /> <br />. Responsible for recording information <br />on summary sheets and providing <br />briefings to the Emergency Manage- <br />ment Coordinator and elected officials. <br /> <br />In coordination with the Public Infor- <br />mation Officer, assists in keeping the <br />public informed about hazardous con- <br />ditions. - <br /> <br />Damage Assessment Teams <br /> <br />Damage assessment teams will be or- <br />ganized by their expertise with each <br />department/agency expected to provide <br />team personnel when requested by the <br />Damage Assessment Coordinator. Damage <br />assessment teams will receive their work <br />assignments from the Damage Assessment <br />Coordinator and team leaders. Volunteer <br />agency assessment teams will retain con- <br />trol over their personnel even though they <br />will be given mission assignments by the <br />Damage Assessment Coordinator. <br /> <br />TeamS should be capable of assessing <br />damage i1f the following damage <br />categories: <br /> <br />. Residences <br /> <br />. Private Business <br /> <br />Private Non-Profit Facilities <br /> <br />Agriculture <br /> <br />. Debris Removal <br /> <br />Public Roads and Bridges <br /> <br />Private and Public Utilities <br /> <br />Public Water Control Facilities <br /> <br />Public Buildings and Equipment <br /> <br />Teams will be provided with the ap- <br />propriate damage assessment forms and <br />checklists (See Appendix A). The categories <br />of damage that each team is assigned will <br />depend upon the number of inspectors <br />available to perform this assessment and <br />their area of expertise. Many local jurisdic- <br />tions have a very limited number of per- <br />sonnel that can be assigned to these tasks. <br />All items on the forms are discussed to as- <br />sure that everyone is farniliar with the <br />terms and the real or potential impact that <br /> <br />Four <br />
