In particular, we may be askcd to document channel bank
erosion that occurted in Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs and Pueblo. 1\11 of this
work would feed directly into the Flood Documentation Rcport for EI Paso County and, to a
lesser extent, Pueblo, Otero and Bent Counties.

Related work has involved extensive monitoring and forensic work associated with the scwer
collection system to determine specific causes of system failures, basement flooding and otller
flooding.

Location:
Budget:
Year Completed:
Client:
Project Team Involvement:

Colorado Springs ond EI Po so County, Colorodo
S50,000
1999 (ongoing)
Colorado Springs Utilities
Chip Poulson - Project Reviewer, George Slovensky - Project Engineer

lclP, " I 1 ,& 'I&od )Iudl' G,IO Floon Oper .iTlOII Pion
Montgomcty Watson conducted a hydrologic and
hydraulic review of the September 1998 flood on Lake
Las Vegas, Nevada. The Septcmber 1998 flood caused
lake levels to rise higher and mote tapidly than predicted
by design storms used to size and operate thc lake, and
inundated potentially developable property on the
lakeshore. Montgomery Watson reviewed rainfall and
runoff data collected by USGS, NWS and Clark County
Regional Flood Control District to evaluate the event
frequency and compare cvcnt characteristics to design storm characteristics. The result was
development of a flood operation plan to provide guidance to lake operators during flood
events. Instructions on operating the lake bypass structure and spillway structurcs were
developed, and related to teal-time data available to lake operators from upstream tain and
stream gages.

Locution:
Budget:
Year Completed:

\ Colorado Water Conservation Boord
-~

,
MontgomeryWotson documented flooding conditions ot LlIke
tas Vegas in leplembnr 1998

3
