All 1998 and later items are dependent on City and County of Denver budgets <br />for 1998 and successive years. <br /> <br />ASARCO Cleanup <br />ASARCO is responsible for cleanup of portions of the NTP property under consent <br />decree with CDPHE for the ASARCO Globe site. Cle2Jlup for the Armory, park and <br />eastern portion of the road will begin in mid-August, with the cleanup scheduled for <br />completion by September30, 1997. <br /> <br />Demolition and Asbestos Removal <br />Demolition of treatment plant facilities is necessary for National Guard Armory and park <br />construction, Asbestos removal from treatment plant facilities will precede demolition, <br />Asbestos removal is currently under contract, with removal scheduled for completion by <br />late November, 1997. Some parts of some treatment plant facilities will be retained in the <br />park. Park preliminary design to allow for demolition planning is complete. Demolition <br />of most of the facilities will take place between December, 1997 and June, 1998. Final <br />demolition is anticipated to be completed by late 1998. U.S. Department of <br />Commerce/Economic Development Administration, Denver Public Works and Denver <br />Parks and Recreation funds are being used for demolition. Total cost of demolition <br />needed for park and Armory construction is estimated at $1.5M. <br /> <br />Colorado National Guard Armory <br />The Colorado National Guard has leased ten acres on the eastern part of the property to <br />construct an Armory, Construction is expected to begin in October, 1997, with <br />completion in early 1999, Parking facilities will be available for park users. The Armory <br />recreational, educational, and meeting facilities will be available for public use. The <br />Armory is being built with State of Colorado and federal funds at an estimate cost of <br />$7M. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Road <br />A road will be constructed that enters the property from the west on 51 st Avenue, jogs <br />north to go around the park, and goes east to Franklin Street. Design completion is <br />expected in January 1998. Phase 1 of the road will be completed for Armory opening by <br />the end of 1998, with the entire road completed in 1999 or 2000. Total cost of the road is <br />estimated at $1.4M. <br /> <br />Park <br />Thirteen acres in the center of the property adjoining the river will be transformed into a <br />park. The park will contain playing fields, and the storm drainage for the wildlife <br />refuge/detention pond will be rerouted to develop a wetland and natural area on the west <br />side of the park. Portions of the treatment plant facilities will be retained and <br />incorporated into the park to serve as dividing walls, viewing towers, seating areas, or . <br />architectural features. A soccer arena may be constructed in place of a playing field in <br />the northern portion of the park. Park development costs are estimated at $800,000, <br />
