Park construction is anticipated to begin in late 1998. <br /> <br />Heron Pond Preserve <br />The 12 acre stormwater detention pond and surrounding area receives active waterfowl <br />and wildlife use, and will remain as a wildlife refuge, tentatively named Heron Pond <br />Preserve. The Denver Museum of Natural History is doing a wildlife inventory of the <br />refuge, and will be designing improvements for wildlife viewing. The Green City Data <br />Project in conjunction with a DPS high school will be assisting DMNH in gathering data. <br />A UC-D team is conducting an ecological survey. Refuge improvements are anticipated <br />in 1998. <br /> <br />CommerciaIlIndustrialland redevelopment <br />Twenty four acres of the western portion of the property will be redeveloped for <br />commercial/industrial use as a public/private initiative. This will occur following Phase <br />III of the River Restoration project due to flood control requirements.
