In most communities, local
officials know which lenders handle most construction
loans. Also, because they are required to provide
lowest floor elevation data upon request, they usually
can provide the names of local insurance agents who
handle flood insurance. For each referral, record the
name of the firm, address, phone number and name of a
contact, if available, on the back of Pages 8 (lenders)
and 10 (agents) of the CRF. CSC is the best source for
insurance agencies active in a given area, but the local
contact is often the best source for identifying
lenders.

Now, complete Part 2B, dealing with lenders and insurance
agents. Call the contacts identified by the local official,
CSC and through your own research (two of each may be
sufficient), and go through the checklist at Part 3B of the
CRF, completing the following:

Number 1 - Ensure that the name, address, and other
information you have recorded is correct (see pages 8
and lO of the CRF).

Number 2 - Schedule an approximate time for the meeting.
use a 90-minute to two-hour time span in the late
morning or late afternoon. That way you can fit the
meetings into the time left after the floodplain tour or
local official's meeting, without having to cut them
short to get to a fixed appointment.

Number 3 - Describe the purpose of the meeting, as done
with the local official, and go through the agenda (see
the one used in the sample letters at Attachments E2 and
E3) .

Numbers 4 and 5 - Determine your contacts' familiarity
with the NFIP and their responsibilities under the
program. This will assist you in deciding what type of
materials you will want to bring to the meetingo

Numbers 6 and 7 - Determine your contacts' awareness of
flooding and their attitude toward floodplain
development, e,go, are lenders discouraging floodplain
development beyond our requirements?

Number 8 - Identify any issues that your contact would
like you to be prepared to address.

L. Contact CSC Representatives: The CSC representatives
have names of insurance agents for their Region, listed by
order of the largest carrier of flood insurance. Ask for the
top three or four names. Record the firm name, address,

- 9 -
