."

.-""
,
.~

.

The Honorable Kenneth Kramer
Page Two
May 18, 1981

.

Budget for fiscal 1982 is fixed, thus the $150,000 would have to Come from
some other item in the Public Works budget. If this is possible, it would
ensure continuation of the project.

A second alternative is to have the Appropriations Act include language
directing the Corps of Engineers to initiate Phase II, Advanced Engineering
and Design of the Fountain Creek Flood Control Project with available funds.
This would give the District Engineer direction to utilize any unused funds
that became available during fiscal year 1982 [or the Fountain Creek Project.
I am assured by the Corps that with this direction, the project can be con-
tinued.

As you are aware, this project has strong local support. This support en-
compasses all groups within the conullunity. I know of no one who is against
the plan, Significant funds have already been expended by the City of
Pueblo for the project. In total, this spending amounts to $1,669,000.
With this degree of local support" it would be very unfortunate if progress
on this project were suspended.

Any assistance that you can give us to ensure that the Corps of Engineers
continues to develop this project would be appreciated. I have also passed
this information on to Representative Kogovsek, Senator llart and Senator
Armstrong.

Very truly yours,
/"

./
I' (
,//" ../

,
/ (
, ,,' I
)>:' I { v

Don Luster
Fountain Creek Commission

DL:nulI

i.,

~-
