General categories of emergency
response actions are:

1. flood fight efforts (sandbags, etc. - see Appendices D & K)
2. raising or removal of property from affected homes or businesses.
3. evacuations
4. search and rescues
5. sheltering of flood victims
6. management of electric, gas, water, and sewage utilities
7. fire suppression
8. law enforcement
9. emergency medical services

The flood maps shown on Plates 2-20 should be used as a guide in
identifying areas that would require the emergency measures listed below
for each flood level. Field observations and familiarity with bench marks
should suoDlement the flood maDS.

These maps do not show evacuation routes. Obviously evacuations
should be directed away from the River. Individuals (Police, traffic directors,
shelter operators, etc.) involved in the evacuation process should be familiar
with the roads and shelter locations. Plate 27 locates the shelters to be used
during a flood emergency. Copies can be easily made of this plate and
distributed to anyone requesting directions to a shelter.

21

1 Response Actions
