The Turkey Creek Drive dams ....ere constructed by the <br />subdi,"ision's developers in order to create a series of ponds along the creek for aesthetic <br />landscaping and recreational purposes. According to a draft Floodplain Information <br />Report prepared in 2003 by Ayn:s Associates for the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board. most of the dams and roadways thai "efe damaged. including the areas v.,ith the <br />most se\'ere washouts. an: located within the 1 DO-year floodplain. Figures 1.3 and I A <br />show pictures of some of the damage that l)ccurred along Turkey Creek. Also. <br />Teller County #78 (Painted Rocks Road). which is also in Turkey Rock. was damaged by <br />the overflow of Trout Creek. Damage in the northern portion oflcllcr caused no deaths. <br />injuries. or known damage to homes howner. ten families residing in the Hayman bum <br />an:a wen: displact'd from their homes on Friday. July" 16. and the majority of the <br />community was inconvenienced by the resulting limited access to their neighborhoods. <br /> <br />Signiticant damage from the July ::!o~ 1100d5 also occurred on roadways along the <br />western half of Teller County. panieularly toward the southwest where the county <br />borders Fremont and Park Counties \\hich also experienced flooding and flood damage. <br />Teller County Road #1. or Teller One. experienced ponding and washouts of its newl) <br />constructed shoulders which ene-cted the Colorado Mountain Estates suhdi\'ison nearby. <br />Also. Tdler Coumy II (High Park Road) was closed IIA miles south of Teller One <br />lx'cause of llooding in neighbl,)ring Fremont County. High Park Road represents the <br />shortest paved route from Cripple Creek to Canon City.
