.

There are a few Chinese elm and young cottonwoods along the

southern edge of Stapleton International Airport. Annual weeds

(mustards), weedy grasses, and other stabilizing grasses are

located on the streambank. Upstream from Lowry Air Force Base

the natural channel is not well defined. There is no woody

vegetation along the banks in this reach except where the creek

intercepts the Highline Canal. Riparian woodlands habitat are

found in the upstream end of the basin with cottonwoods

comprising the bulk of the species present.

Some doves, magpies, and a various assortment of songbirds

can be found in the areas adjacent to the stream. Urban animals

such as fox squirrels, raccoons, ground squirrels, cottontail

rabbits, and small rodents such as the meadow vole, shrews, and

house mouse are known to inhabit the areas.

No rare or endangered plant or animal species are known to
exist in the Westerly Creek basin.

.

11
