<br />. <br /> <br />There are a few Chinese elm and young cottonwoods along the <br /> <br /> <br />southern edge of Stapleton International Airport. Annual weeds <br /> <br /> <br />(mustards), weedy grasses, and other stabilizing grasses are <br /> <br />located on the streambank. Upstream from Lowry Air Force Base <br /> <br /> <br />the natural channel is not well defined. There is no woody <br /> <br /> <br />vegetation along the banks in this reach except where the creek <br /> <br />intercepts the Highline Canal. Riparian woodlands habitat are <br /> <br /> <br />found in the upstream end of the basin with cottonwoods <br /> <br /> <br />comprising the bulk of the species present. <br /> <br />Some doves, magpies, and a various assortment of songbirds <br /> <br /> <br />can be found in the areas adjacent to the stream. Urban animals <br /> <br /> <br />such as fox squirrels, raccoons, ground squirrels, cottontail <br /> <br /> <br />rabbits, and small rodents such as the meadow vole, shrews, and <br /> <br /> <br />house mouse are known to inhabit the areas. <br /> <br />No rare or endangered plant or animal species are known to <br />exist in the Westerly Creek basin. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />11 <br />
